What are dentures?

Dentures are removable, artificial teeth replacements. With dentures, you can replace some or all of your teeth.

While they take some getting used to, modern dentures are more comfortable, longer-lasting, and more natural-looking than dentures of the past.

What different types of dentures are available to me?

Fifth Avenue Dental Arts offers three main types of dentures, including:

Partial dentures

Partial dentures replace one or more missing teeth.

Traditional partial dentures feature a metal skeleton, an acrylic base, and clasps. The acrylic base covers the metal skeleton and contains the prosthetic teeth. The clasps are attached to the base, and you use them to secure your dentures to your natural teeth.

Some partial dentures use crowns as anchors.

Full dentures

Full dentures accommodate patients who are missing a complete set of teeth in either their upper or lower jaw or both. Full dentures, made from acrylic, are removable. To keep them in good condition, clean them on the inside and outside two to three times a day.

Immediate dentures

Unlike partial and permanent dentures, which the practice custom-makes for each patient, immediate dentures are prefabricated. If you have teeth that are damaged beyond repair and require extraction right away, the practice can replace them with immediate dentures.

Immediate dentures supply you with protection and keep your remaining teeth from shifting while you wait for a more permanent solution.

What are the advantages of dentures?

Your smile serves many functions, and it’s one of the primary gateways to your body. If you’ve lost teeth due to damage, decay, or breakage, not only is the world missing out on your beautiful smile, but you’re also left at a disadvantage.

Dentures can help restore your ability to eat, speak, and chew properly. They also restore lost volume to your face and keep your facial muscles from sagging around your missing teeth.
